Is it all going Digital?
Increasingly films are using green screens and digital effects to create the settings and locations of the story. For the creation of fictional worlds like Pandora in Avatar, digital effects bring those worlds to life. No longer do we see massive sets being built for the purpose of making a location seem or look real. Digital effects have replaced the need to shoot in a physical space to make the audience believe what they are seeing on the screen is real. Even just creating a image from a location that looks like it could be somewhere on Earth is enough. And yet in certain areas the need for a backbone to establish something will always be necessary. In the second Hobbit, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, parts of lake town were actually built to create the rest of the location using CGI.
However the question remains, is film heading into an age where everything is filmed inside studios in front of green screens?
